NEW MARINER & FISHERMANS WHARF

We have heard more reports of Cod being caught from inside both the local harbours. To find the Cod look for rocky snaggy areas with a deep drop off you can use soft plastics and hard body lures to target Cod in these areas. Majority of the Cod being caught are between 30 and 50cm, fishing big baits into the evenings will almost guarantee you a Cod just be patient. We have also seen photos of more Finger Mark, Mangrove Jacks and Diamond Trevally that move around our marinas at high tide during the evenings, these fish respond well to small hard body lures, soft plastics and fresh or live baits.

Government release shark catch data and say the methods are working well

The State Government has released details of the first three weeks of its new drum line initiative, part of a $23million shark hazard mitigation program.

The South-West contractor (who commenced January 25) has caught 23 sharks in total, disposing of 13 tiger sharks over three metres in length, and successfully releasing six smaller sharks.

Since February 1, Department of Fisheries crews operating at the five metropolitan beach sites have caught 43 sharks.  Four tiger sharks have been disposed of, 34 have been released.  Some 28 of these sharks have been tagged with ID tags to assist with research and shark tracking.

In total, 49 sharks were under three metres in length, nine were dead and 40 were released alive. These figures are current as at 6pm, Sunday, February 16.

Fisheries Minister Ken Baston said today the early results showed the methods used by the crews were working well.

“We have caught and destroyed a number of large sharks within one kilometre of selected beaches, at a time of year when our beaches are crowded.  This catch data proves there are a large number of big sharks near these beaches,” Mr Baston said.

Both the South-West contractor and the Fisheries crews have been able to successfully release the vast majority (82 per cent) of any sharks under three metres, with no by-catch of other marine species.

“We believe the hook and bait systems we are using are successfully targeting larger sharks and not other fish species, and I commend the crews who have been diligent in releasing as many caught sharks as possible,” the Minister said.

The Fisheries vessel used in metropolitan waters has been modified with a specially constructed ramp and sea water circulation system to ensure sharks smaller than three metres survived.

“The crews try to support the shark while it is being measured, tag it where possible and release the shark out at sea if time allows,” Mr Baston said.

NEW TACKLEWORLD GERALDTON SHIRTS

We are proud to say with a little hard work we have finally been able to come up with a shirt that truly represents our store and location, Lloyd our fishing manager set out to get a quality photo of the iconic West Oz Dhu Fish and that he did. The picture Lloyd chose is perfect and captures Dhu Fish exactly the way we wanted to.

These new TW gero shirts are all long sleeve for full sun protection and are made from the highest quality, Australian weaved polyester. This "sports dry" material is designed for the tropics (we'd know, the shirts have been extensively tested in the hot midwest sun) and is incredibly soft to feel, unbelievably cool, durable, UPF 50, and lightweight. The material is much cooler than cotton, will not fade or shrink like cotton, does not require ironing and is far more durable.

Quite often the difference between a great looking shirt and a great wearing shirt is the quality of fabric and we proudly stand by (or in) ours. We produce a range of shirts that not only look great, but our customers want to wear for their comfort, style and of course sun protection.

These  shirts are also proudly 100% Australian made.

Our shirt features -

UPF 50 broad-spectrum sun protection from 97.5% of UVA & UVB rays.

Completely designed, printed, manufactured and distributed in Australia

Ultra cool, designed in the tropics to be lightweight, soft and comfortable.

“No feel” - The dye actually becomes part of the fabric and does not inhibit the breathing qualities of the material, no matter what the colour.

The breathable, quick drying fabric won’t slow down an active outdoor lifestyle like a heavy, wet, clammy cotton shirt, yet it provides over 5 times the UPF protection.

Wont wash off like sunscreen. Easy to use-reduces the hassle and uncertainty of applying body-covering sunscreen.

Quick drying, won’t fade or break down - great in all weathers! Bright colors make your child easy to spot!

“Clean and Green” - No harsh chemicals used in the printing or pressing process.

The Skin Cancer Foundation, recommends sun protective wear as a sun protection measure.

Unbelievable cooling ability in all temperatures.

Long sleeve for the upmost protection against natures harsh elements.

Sizes - Kids 6 thru to mens 4XL.

The all new Tackleworld Geraldton Big Fish shirts are now available in store perfect for all your fishing or outdoor needs.

IMA RO JIGS

Throughout Japan, there has been a new craze for inshore jigging for "Tachiuo" or otherwise known as a scabbard fish. Although there are still lots to learn about this type of fishing, it is already being considered as a sport game fish and like all lure fishing, results will vary dramatically depending upon the tackle and skill of an angler. The ima Ro series has been extremely effective because of its "centre balance" and holographic reflecting coloring combination. The standard jerk and fall method is the most popular method being used by anglers and with the assist hook eye that is positioned in the front portion of the body, a sure hook set is well within reach.

Action - The ima Ro series applies the usage of "centre balance" to create the wide erratic action when jerked. Instead of short quick pumps the Ro jigs have nice long darts though the water. The slim profile really allows the jig to slice through the water and flutter down on the fall. When cutting through the water there is not a lot of resistance felt making this jig a perfect match for even light tackle.

Ro's Color Lineup -Ima's colour line up has some hot colours that feature a strong purple basic with a holographic reflector. Ima's pro staff suggests regularly changing colours and mixing the sizes to always keep the fish feeding.

We stock 80 and 100 gram Ima Ros and have tested these jigs extensively in local waters, they have proven to be deadly on all our local fish species. Especially fish like Dhu Fish, Coral Trout, Baldchin grouper, Snapper, Sambos and Mackerel.
