Deserving winner for Australia Day Award
/Bob Symington has taken out the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship award.
Bob was awarded the accolade at yesterday’s Australia Day ceremony on the Foreshore among many several other applicants who were nominated for the prestigious award.
Bob has given over 50 years volunteer commitment to the community of Geraldton through his very active involvement with the Rotary Club of Geraldton.
He joined the club in 1984, served as president in 1993/94 and his international theme was “Believe in what you do – do what you believe in,” a theme practiced by Bob on a day-to-day basis.
Bob is always one of the many active organisers/soldiers of the yearly Geraldton Rotary Club Radio Auction, which raises much, needed funding for community groups.
In 2013 Bob was presented with Rotarian of the Year. He is a dedicated and valued member of the Rotary Club of Geraldton who is passionate about giving back and to "making a difference”.
Nickeisha Hodder took out the U26 award for her work with indigenous sport in the community.
Nickeisha organises after school programs for Mingenew, Nabawa and Northampton and helps local Athletics clubs.
The Relay For Life Midwest Committee was awarded the Community group award.
The Relay For Life Midwest Committee, this year celebrated 10 years of volunteering in the Midwest community to fundraise for Cancer Council WA. The committee organises teams of 10-15 people to fundraise prior to the event, supporting the teams in their fundraising efforts.
Over the past ten years teams have raised in excess of $1.15 million for Cancer Council WA – including in 2013 the 41 teams raising in excess of $183,000.
