Nominate your local hero for Australia Day!

Do you know an outstanding member of the community that should be recognised? Nominations are about to close for the 2016 Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards.

The City of Greater Geraldton invites both Geraldton and Mullewa residents to nominate a local community member or group who they think should be recognised for their important contribution to the community.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor, Shane Van Styn, said there have been many worthy recipients of the awards and people should think about acknowledging their fellow locals for the hard work that is put into making Greater Geraldton the fantastic community it is.

“The awards foster, recognise and celebrate significant contributions to community life and active citizenship in all local government areas of Western Australia,” he said.

“We have seen some amazing nominees in the past and I would urge locals to have a think about those who have and continue to make a positive difference.”

The four awards which will be presented at Australia Day celebrations on Tuesday, 26 January 2016 are:

·         Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award

·         Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a person under 26 years

·         Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award for a community group or event

·         City of Greater Geraldton Young Achiever of the Year for a person under 21 years

Two local citizens and one local community group from both Geraldton and Mullewa areas will be eligible for Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards.

The recipients will be selected from people and groups who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, or given outstanding service over a number of years through active involvement to the local community.

Nominations close on Friday, 4 December 2015.

After School Care @ Turtle Cove ELC

Turtle Cove After School Care @ Allendale is now expanding their services to St Lawrence's Primary School. 

A bus service will operate from St Lawrence's to Allendale every afternoon during the school term. These placements are strictly limited, with some places having already been snapped up. 

A pickup service is also available from Geraldton Grammar School. Turtle Cove After School Care @ Allendale is approved for Child Care Benefit and the Child Care Rebate, as well as funding programmes such as JETT. 

Our flat rate is $40 per child, per day, inclusive of afternoon tea and pickups, however after rebates and benefits, the most our working and studying parents will pay is $20 per afternoon, with some daily fees starting as little as $2 a day (contact the Family Assistance Office on 136150 for more benefit details).

The City of Greater Geraldton is seeking local photography enthusiasts to capture their favourite moments in Geraldton and enter a competition using the hashtag

#whyilovegero .

The competition will be open via Instagram, Facebook and also the City of Greater Geraldton website for those without social media.

Local company Mitchell and Brown have kindly donated a $500 prize to the winner of the competition.

“We want to know the essence of why people living in Geraldton love Geraldton; this could be natural landscapes, events, public art, lifestyle, family – we want to see in an image why you love Geraldton,” said City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn.

Accompanying each image, the participant needs to write a description detailing the subject material of the image and why this depicts their love of Geraldton. 

As part of the Christmas on the Terrace event, all images will be on projected onto a building for public viewing on Thursday 10 December from 6pm on Marine Terrace.

The lucky winner of the Mitchell and Brown voucher will also be announced at the event.

All ages and photography skills are encouraged to get involved and share their snaps of why they love Geraldton!

The property market in Geraldton is looking to be in something of a slump. With property prices stagnating, experts are predicting a fall in the average house price by the end of the financial year.

St Francis Xavier Primary School 3 Year Old Program 2016

Children born between July 1 2012 and June 30 2013 are invited to apply for our 3 Year Old Program commencing Term 1, 2016.

The program is offered by an experienced Early Childhood teacher to children who have turned 3 and is held on Mondays and Fridays of the school term. The program is grounded in Early Childhood Education beliefs and practices immersed in a Catholic environment.
