All around Geraldton today people donned basketball singlets in tribute to Ruth Rogers.

Ruth passed away over the weekend after a battle with cancer and she was remembered by the basketball community today with locals putting on their basketball attire for the day to honour the basketball legend.

Dozens of people huddled around a tribute to Ruth at Activewest Stadium today, which included a basketball, her uniform, a whistle and her photo, among other items.

Ruth's sister Irene Byrnes said she was absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of support and kindness of the community.

"I am so proud to call Ruth my sister," she said.

"She was a fighter. She lived every minute.

"She once told a friend that she was too scared to stop."

And Ruth never stopped. She has been with the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association since 1985 and since then she has been a life member, a referee, a director, scorebench official at Buccaneers home games, and many would know her most as games controller.

Ruth grew up on Wahroonga Farm in Kojarena with her parents Irene and Don, and Sister Irene and brother Rob.

As well as basketball, Ruth loved her horses and played other sports including tennis and hockey.

With people remembering Ruth today, "fighter" was a word that came to many people's minds.

We'll all miss her smiling face around basketball.
