$2.1million replacement jetty complete at Marina
/Member for Geraldton Ian Blayney MLA has announced that work on the $2.1million replacement of Jetty A at the Batavia Coast Marina is complete.
Mr Blayney said the brand new modern floating pen system was vastly superior to the original concrete and wood structure which had reached the end of its serviceable life.
“I’m very pleased to see the work finished. The Batavia Coast Marina is a wonderful asset to Geraldton and the region,” he said.
“The marina is already highly sought after because of the high quality pen infrastructure and the new Jetty A aluminium structured replacement is a further enhancement to what is fast becoming one of Geraldton’s iconic areas.
“The 42 new Jetty A pens range in length from 10 to 18 metres and include two pens for catamarans up to 18m in length. The jetty walkways are wider and the marina has enhanced fire and security systems.
“Additionally, all the new pens have a finger jetty extending the entire length of the pen to make loading, unloading and general access easier.”
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said work on the replacement project was undertaken by Walcon Marine Australia Pty Ltd which had previously completed the installation of floating pens at the Albany Waterfront Marina.
“The project followed a major expansion in pen facilities at the marina with the construction of Jetty B in 2011 which added 42 pens,” Mr Nalder said.
“The new Jetty A also requires minimal maintenance.”
The Batavia Coast Marina contains a number of boating facilities, including a land-backed service wharf, service jetty, fuelling and maintenance facilities, 47 commercial and recreation boat pens, and the 42 new floating pens.
