Midwest Fishing Report by Tackleworld Country
/LOCAL ROCKWALLS
Tailor have been patchy of late with a few good fish to 50cm, whiting are biting well, a good way to catch whiting is to use a bait catcher rig with gulp worms cut into small pieces. Herring can be found around the rock groins at the ends where there is water movement. Mulloway are on the move with fish up to 10kg reported at the lives.
NEW MARINA & FISHERMEN'S HARBOUR
There has been plenty of action in the Marina at the moment with lots of species caught early morning and later afternoon being the best times snook and small chopper tailor smashing schools of hard heads and bigger predator’s like Diamond trev’s and school Mackie’s and the odd sambo hanging under them ready to pounce, the best way to catch these fish is lightly weighty soft plastics and small stick baits, long toms to 75cm are also hitting surface lures.
OFFSHORE
Mackerel are still running along the 20m mark and around the shipping channel, coral trout can be found around the 40m marks north of town, sharks have been a big problem taking fish on a regular basis.
BEACHES
South gate has fished well for mulloway, whiting and tailor and a few school Mackie’s, there are big tailor lurking around the reefs as well, Tarcoola beaches have fished well for mulloway and tailor. Drummond to buller has had good mulloway to 15kg and plenty of tailor.
RIVERS
Greenough river is fishing extremely well considering the water condition the way they are, big bream from 30-35cm are still active in the morning’s and right throughout the day and mangrove jacks getting caught regularly.
