You can now report lost property online

This week Police Minister Liza Harvey launched an Australian-first webpage which will allow the public to directly report missing property items online.

Report My Lost Property will give people direct access the WA Police system to report missing items and the opportunity to add or change any information on the system about their lost property.

“Together with the Check My Crime website which the State Government announced in July last year, this program frees up police officers to spend more time on the frontline fighting crime in our community,” Mrs Harvey said.

“This new, online reporting program will make it much easier and more efficient for both police and the general public to report lost items.”

In 2012, WA Police lodged 35,531 lost property reports involving 85,475 property items. Based on an average five minutes per line item, this took 2,960 hours or 394 working days of effort.

The Minister reminded those people who are not comfortable using the internet that they could still lodge lost property reports over the phone or in person at a police station.

Report My Lost Property can be accessed via the Online services link on the the WA Police website.

Users can also find other services like Check My Crime, Report a Crash, Report a Hoon and Register a Party.
