Georgina's on her way to raise $10,000 in honour of her brother

Three weeks ago we introduced the Geraldton community to the inspirational Georgina Ashworth Preece who is shaving her head for World's Greatest Shave in honour of her brother Alex who passed away two years ago.

When we spoke to the 15-year-old, she was hoping that she could raise $1,000. Now having raised over $3,000 she hopes that she can raise $10,000.

"I have now raised almost $3,000 and I am aiming to raise $10,000," Georgina said.

"$2,000 supports a major blood cancer research project for one week, therefore $10,000 supports a major research project for five weeks."

Georgina is hoping the community will get behind the cause which raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation in the month of March.

"The population of the Geraldton region is over 40,000 so if just 5,000 kind, generous people in Geraldton or in WA donated at least two dollars, the price of a cheap drink or chocolate bar, then I will be close to reaching my goal of $10,000," Georgina said.

"If I reach my goal of $10,000 that would be really amazing and I would be able to make a big difference in helping others."

Georgina will shave her head with her mum, Will Todd (one of Alex’s school buddies) and Ian Blayney on March 15th.

The shave will be a public event located at the rear of Dome on the grassed area on the Geraldton Foreshore.

The public are asked to come along and show their support.

Local barber Cut Throat Joes has very kindly offered their services and will conduct the shaving.

People can click here to donate online or they can put money in an envelope with a label and drop it into Patience Bulk Haulage, Rigters IGA or the Geraldton Police Station.
