Have your say on the future of Australia's Agriculture Sector
/Residents of Durack are invited to make an appointment to have their say on the future of Australia’s agriculture sector when a government taskforce visits the Electorate in March, according to Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price.
Minister for Agriculture Barnaby Joyce announced this week that the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper Taskforce was coming to Geraldton on 21 March and Kununurra on 26-27 March, and called on people to get involved.
“I encourage all Durack residents, particularly those living in Geraldton, the Wheatbelt, Kununurra and surrounding regions, to share their vision for agriculture and how we can make it more competitive by booking a one-on-one meeting with the taskforce or making a submission,” Ms Price said.
Australia’s farm sector is a massive earner for Australia. Each year our farmers produce $53 billion worth of food and fibre, and export almost $40 billion of that.
Over the coming months, the taskforce will be visiting towns and regional centres like Geraldton and Kununurra to meet with local farmers and industry representatives as part of their consultation on the issues paper.
Building on our strengths in agriculture is part of the Australian Government’s plan to build a diverse 5-Pillar economy to generate jobs and deliver a stronger, more prosperous economy.
To make an appointment phone the taskforce on 02 6271 6272 or email agricultural.competitiveness@pmc.gov.au.
If you are unable to make a one-on-one appointment you can still make a submission. To find out how, visit www.agriculturalcompetitiveness.dpmc.gov.au.
Submissions are due by 5pm, 17 April 2014.
