In memory of her 11-year-old brother who passed away from Leukaemia two years ago, Georgina Ashworth Preece will shave her head next month to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

The 15-year-old Geraldton Grammar School student says she wants to shave her long brown locks for her brother.

“I think Alex would be really proud of me and he would have done the exact same thing,” she said.

“I want to help raise money for research so that other people do not need to suffer from cancer anymore.

“People may gain a better understanding of what leukaemia is and how it affects families through my involvement in this community fundraiser.”

March 13th-16th is the World’s Greatest Shave and Georgina will have her head shaved during this time.

It might sound a bit daunting for a 15-year-old but Georgina is raring to go.

“I’ve always had my hair long and it might be weird for the first couple of days,” she said.

“I don't mind having my hair shaved because I think it’s for a very worthwhile cause and it will probably only take about a couple of years to grow back.”

Georgina is asking the public to get behind her and donate to the cause.

She has already raised over $600 but is hoping for more.

“I really want people to donate generously so I can raise money and awareness in memory of my little brother,” she said.

“I appreciate any donation, every dollar counts!”
