Geraldton girl in running for Miss Universe

Michelle Lake has made it to the the pool of 70 Western Australian girls who will try their luck at making the national cut for the Miss Universe competition.

A total of 70 hopefuls from around WA were selected late last year and a cut of 24 will be made next month before a final 6 are chosen to compete nationally.

Michelle said she was absolutely blown away just to make the selection of 70.

“All the girls I am up against are absolutely amazing and so passionate about what they do,” she said.

“I am so happy and I really would love to make the final cut to go through to the national competition.”

Michelle, 23, was born in South Africa but moved to Geraldton when she was 12 and said she considers herself a Geraldton girl.

She said she hopes the community will support her by voting for her as people’s choice.

Michelle now resides in Perth where she is freelance modelling for various companies as well as studying teaching.

“I have done some work at the Ronald McDonald House and it was one of the most rewarding experiences,” Michelle said.

“Ultimately I want to help children and their families wherever I can and I hope my degree will assist me in that.”
