A female cat has been reunited with its family after being lost for roughly six months from its Geraldton home.

The domestic short hair was bought into the City of Greater Geraldton’s Cat Management Facility on Pass Street by a staff member from Fauna for the Future, an animal conservation group who found the cat.

City of Greater Geraldton Team Leader Animal Control, Darren Cole, said once details were extracted from a microchip scan the owner was notified of their missing cat.

“It wasn’t until the owner came to collect the cat she advised us she hadn’t seen the cat for six months or more and had given up hope of finding it alive,” he said.

“The owner was quite emotional when she collected her cat which goes to show that microchipping does help reunite pets with their owners.”

“Microchipping a pet is an effective tool when it comes to reuniting families with lost pets and it’s a simple process to keep your contacts up to date,” said Mr Cole.
