Nationals aim to help Geraldton businesses compete
/Press release:
As a prominent business person, The Nationals WA Candidate for Geraldton, Shane Van Styn understands the competitive pressures on being in business and has therefore developed in consultation with local businesses, a Regional Buy Local Policy discussion paper for consideration by The Nationals WA.
“I often hear that Geraldton businesses are either not invited to tender on, or are made unable to compete with, multinational Perth based companies on Government funded projects. This comes as a result of various Government departments’, Perth centric buying practices as well as the bundling together of contracts into packages so large regional businesses are unable to tender”, Mr Van Styn said.
“With significant Royalties for Regions money, being allocated to projects throughout the Midwest, there has never been a more urgent need to look for ways to assist regionally based business to be considered for the regional projects and create jobs for Geraldton workers.” Mr Van Styn said.
Mr Van Styn said “If elected I will work hard to see this policy developed and ultimately implemented for the benefit of all regionally based businesses. I have discussed The Regional Buy Local Policy discussion paper with Brendon Grylls personally and I look forward to continuing to work with him and the party on this.”
“Today I am pleased to see that my ideas have been implemented in The Nationals’ small business policy, which is a great start to hopefully seeing the total adoption of my Regional Buy Local discussion paper.”
“Midwest Chamber of Commerce, CEO Bill Hedley has told me that this is very positive stuff and will be great boost for his members here in Geraldton.”
“In this election, only The Nationals are talking about regional business and I am proud to be able to demonstrate my ability to implement policy change at the highest level from here in Geraldton.” Mr Van Styn said.
