Videos: Mountain Bridge and Milo Crossing following heavy rains

In case you missed it, here's some footage sent in last week by a community member. Shona shared footage of Mountain Bridge and Milo Crossing, east of Dongara, following heavy rains.

She said "must have come through with some force as it uprooted an entire tree, roots and all."

This home is still getting trashed by neighbouring youths 7 months later

6 months ago we shared the above video of a home in Geraldton that had been trashed by neighbouring youths. The owners were distraught. They say they've been to the Police so many times with nothing able to be done they don't even bother any more.

The initial damage occurred in January 2015.

The total bill for the damage was $73,000.

Today, the owners contacted us again, at their wit's end about what to do regarding continued damage to the home, pleading for help from anyone in the community.

"Hey I had my house destroyed in Jan by a bunch of kids under the age of 12... Well guess what. They keep coming back and doing more damage since the $73,000.00 worth of damage in Jan. They have done damage to our new fence out the front, thrown rocks at 3 windows and smashed them, graffitied the fence out the front our front porch with paint and yesterday the kid smashed holes in the fence! I've been really understanding with these kids but enough is enough. Where do I go? Police? DCP? Melissa Price? Council? Me and my family are exhausted. HELP please anyone?"
"I have even approached the rock group (youth organisation).... I'm seriously at my witts end. I have been making complaint after complaint. I have given up even reporting to the police. I don't bother any more."

The owner's also sent a message to local youth organisations trying to get assistance:

"The kid that did this fence was apparently 5. All the kids who have damaged my property have been under the age of 12. I seriously am at my whits end. Help them please. Every time I am at my house I see them do runs to and from the shops stealing food."

hey say they have already spent $10,000 of their own money (not insurance money) on improvements to the home, and now cannot afford a lawyer to help them handle this ongoing issue that no one is taking responsibility for.

The neighbouring residents that are causing the damage are Dept of Housing tenants. The Department of Housing say they have "actioned" the matter, but the damage continues.

When asked about taking the matter to the Police, the home owner stated that "they are under the age of criminal prosecution. Only thing police can do lodge a report for DCP to follow up with."

Video: Archeology dig at Tibradden Station

A very interesting look at some archeological efforts out at Tibradden Station. Geoff Gannon and Chris Lewis from ABC:

Jayden van Beek and an archaeology team from UWA have been exploring the more recent past at one of the area's oldest farming settlements in the Midwest, Tibradden Station. ABC Mid West and Wheatbelt met Jayden as the final stages of excavation were being completed on a shepherd's hut on Tibradden Station. The site was documented but no one was sure what the site had originally been used for and how it had been modified. Jayden explained the task of an archaeologist is to discover "what it was and how it was used, looking for signs of life and proof that someone once lived here". Click here to read more

The most amazing video showcasing the Mid West you've ever seen

Absolutely stunning!

When we watched Kerrin Rowe's creation we were simply stunned. Do yourself a favour and invest four minutes of your life enjoying this wonderful video.

Kerrin says this about his creation:

‘Australia's Midwest’ was shot over a 10 month period with high end camera equipment and motion control dolly’s to capture the region’s stunning landscapes. The film comprises over 10,000 individual photographs which are combined in video editing software and then rendered to motion. The amazing aspect of Western Australia is that outside of Perth the light pollution is near non existent due to the great distances between towns which allows the night sky to pop out and be visually spectacular. The film captures the night sky over some of Western Australia’s most iconic locations. The underlying theme of the film is about getting outdoors and exploring Western Australia and its beauty, whether that be catching a 15 foot monster set at Gnarloo Station, hiking through 400 million year old cliffs in Kalbarri National Park or snorkelling through the turquoise waters of the world heritage listed Ningaloo Reef.

Film locations:
Nambung National Park, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Kennedy Range National Park, Chapman Valley, Gnarloo Station, Red Bluff, Kalbarri, Kalbarri National Park, Coral Bay, Denham, Exmouth, Shark Bay World Heritage Area, Cape Range National Park, Francois Peron National Park, Beaches of the Ningaloo Reef

Neighbours from HELL

Tania Barras has been living next to the neighbours from hell.

Despite numerous complaints to the Police and Department of Housing she and her family continue to live under constant harassment and threat.

Today she shared a little more of the trouble she’s been experiencing, including footage of her neighbours bashing down her fence. Friends contacted GWN who will reportedly be broadcasting more of the story tonight at 5:30.

After a friend visited Tania today, this occurred: "They've just followed a friend out in her car...waited for her to stop at a light, got out of there car and rushed her window...she's going straight to the police station”

A little later, a GWN7 reporter was stuck inside the house: "Gwn are here. ..stuck in side. ..”

Video: Undersea footage of the HMAS Sydney (II) and the German raider HSK Kormoran

An expedition to survey the historic World War II shipwrecks of HMAS Sydney (II) and the German raider HSK Kormoran has produced new photographic evidence which appears to confirm why Sydney was so quickly disabled, leading to catastrophic damage and the devastating loss of everyone on board.

New high resolution images taken two days ago by Curtin University on board DOF Subsea's vessel Skandi Protector clearly shows, for the first time, a 15cm shell hole through the bridge at the compass platform.

Western Australian Museum CEO Alec Coles said it was a remarkable early discovery for the expedition, and provided support for the theory that within the first 30 seconds of the battle Sydney's bridge was destroyed, her command structure lost, and her ability to effectively fight back severely disabled.

"This also supports the German captain Theodor Detmers' account of the battle which states the first salvo to hit Sydney was a direct hit to the bridge," Mr Coles said.

"It would appear we now have photographic evidence to support that, thanks to Curtin University's technology."

When the wrecks were found in 2008 the shell hole was not obvious, presenting as a shadow in the photographs taken at the time. The new imaging technology developed by Curtin University is throwing new light on the historic site.

"Curtin University is collaborating with the WA Museum to provide the technology needed to properly capture the unique heritage value of these ships so they can be investigated, managed and interpreted for future generations," Curtin's Director of Strategic Projects, Paul Nicholls, said.

"We are extremely pleased with these early results and look forward to more new and significant information coming to light over the next few days."

The wrecks lie in 2,500 metres of water, 20km apart, about 200km west of Steep Point (Shark Bay). The $2.4 million survey expedition is supported by the Australian Government, Curtin University, DOF Subsea, the WA Museum Foundation, GMA Garnet Group and the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in WA Torsten Ketelsen, and Prospero Productions.

The project has the support of the Royal Australian Navy and the Naval Association of Australia, representing veterans' interests.
