Goodness Festival Program Unveiled

More than 3000 people are expected to be enthralled by the wonders of science during National Science Week activities conducted as part of this year's Goodness Festival from August 13 to 21.

More than a dozen local organisations including Pollinators, Regional Development Australia Mid West Gascoyne, WA Museum, Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, TAFE and others have collaborated to unveil a jam-packed Goodness Festival program designed to thrill participants with science, sustainability and innovation.

The festival brings a range of high-profile speakers to Geraldton, provides professional development training opportunities and includes a host of activities, including a ‘hub’ of action at the WA Museum Geraldton.

Find the full program of events online at www.goodness.org.au.

Participants have the opportunity to learn from astronomers, ecologists, nutritionists and more.

They can get hands-on with coding, gardening, conservation and star-gazing.

And they can collaborate to create robots, ventures and solve social challenges.

Goodness Festival coordinator Andrew Outhwaite urged anyone and everyone to get involved.

“Goodness Festival provides the chance for people in the Mid West to access this really awesome line up of speakers, workshops and entertainment,” Mr Outhwaite said.

“We’ve got everything from high-profile speakers such as former WA Chief Scientist Lyn Beazley to making Lego robots for kids.”

“There will be the opportunity for local innovators to pitch for funding, and we’ll get out and about to learn about the science at work in our region’s beautiful natural environment.”

This year’s Goodness Festival will operate under the themes of Wet Labs (Ocean Science), Bright Green (environmental conservation), Smart Health (health-related technology), Light Science (astronomy and astrophotography), Engineering Energy and Social Innovation.

Activities range from wildflower bus tours and beachcombing walks, to star gazing, understanding nutrition workshops and a session on everything fishing – from catching to cooking and conservation.

Kids can immerse themselves in the wonders of science in the Makers at the Museum space at the WA Museum, which will include set of science-based inspirational and creative activities aimed at families, astrophotography, robotics.

For a full range of activities, visit the website www.goodness.org.au

Goodness Science, Sustainability and Innovation Festival is an Inspiring Australia initiative, supported by the Australian Government as part of National Science Week, and by Regional Development Australia Mid West Gascoyne.
