GERALDTON is set to sizzle when national and local performers take to the stage on July 4 to kick off the regional part of the fourth Perth International Burlesque Festival.

Presented by Sugar Blue Burlesque, the Roadshow is in Geraldton for the second time, previewing the popular burlesque festival held in various venues around Perth and regional areas from July4-19.

The one-off show at Queens Park Theatre will feature the seductive talents of home-grown artists such as Sugar Du Joure, Ginger Rabbit, Coco Poppin, A’dora Derriere, as well as Geraldton’s own House of Jezzebelles.

Hosted by MC Famous Sharron, patrons will enjoy a spectacular and titillating evening of laughter, games and burlesque antics that will make their eyes pop and their jaws ache with laughter.

“Now in its fourth year, performers and audiences have seen this exciting event grow in popularity, and they know they will see some of the world’s best burlesque artists in action as well as have the opportunity to do unique workshops with them.

“Audiences will experience burlesque performance in styles that vary greatly and fantastically across nations, scenes, and personalities, as well as engaging with the local burlesque scene.

“Above all, it’s a celebration of the local burlesque community because it opens doors for artists, allowing them to realise their uniqueness on the international scene.”

PRICE at the pub with TURNBULL

POLITICS IN THE PUB is on offer in Durack with Melissa Price MP bringing the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Minister for Communications, to the Freemasons Hotel in Geraldton for a beer and a chat with all and sundry.

Ms Price said it was a coup bringing Minister Turnbull to Durack.

“My goal has been to make Durack more relevant in Canberra so that they sit up and take more notice of us, and one way to do that is to get key Ministers and influencers to come to our part of the world,” Ms Price said.

“Earlier this week I had the Hon Bronwyn Bishop in the Kimberley, next Wednesday 22 April I am brining Minister for Employment, Senator the Hon Eric Abetz to Geraldton and of course we had the Prime Minister in February.

“My next guests, I hope, shall be the Hon Sussan Ley, Minister for Health and the Hon Michael Keenan, the Federal Justice Minister, both of whom I have invited.”

Politics in the Pub is your chance to meet informally with Minister Turnbull and to talk about the Government’s plans, performance and leadership, and to gather some rare insights into this seemingly controversial politician.

There is no agenda so bring your questions and comments to the Freemasons on Wednesday 29 April at 630pm – 730pm for this free event.

It would help if you could RSVP at 9964 2195 or mpricedurack@gmail.com.

It was a sea of red poppies at the QEII Senior Centre’s Knitters and Crotchet group.

Over 200 poppies have been knitted to be sold at ANZAC Day activities with all proceeds going to RSL and Legacy.

“It takes me around 20 to 25 minutes to knit one poppy but it’s easy,” she said.

“It gives me a chance to do something different.”

With close to 40 hours of knitting time from Mrs Keighran, her friends in the knitting and crocheting group all pitched in a large amount of time and effort as well as donating all the wool to the project.

The local group knit items which are distributed all over the Mid West and throughout the state for those in need.

The group’s items, such as rugs, baby clothes, beanies and trauma teddies, go to local nursing home Nazareth House and local hospitals as well as King Edward Hospital in Perth.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor, Ian Carpenter, praised the work of this local group.

“This group is continually giving back to the community both locally and state-wide,” he said.

“The whole community is getting behind the ANZAC Day from school groups, to ex-servicemen and many community groups.”

You can purchase your own knitted or crocheted poppy for a gold coin donation at the ANZAC Day services on Saturday at Birdwood House or at Camp Gallipoli on Friday which will be held at Bundiyarra.

What to do for your child’s next birthday party

Is your child’s birthday coming up? Have you started planning a party for them but are stuck on ideas for fun filled activities? A child’s birthday party is a day they look forward to all year, so naturally, you want to throw them the best party possible. But planning a party for young children can be challenging and often, it becomes more stressful than what it should be. Several businesses in Geraldton are here to help and can make your child’s next party a day to remember.

Hop-Upon-A-Pony:

Lets face it, at some point during our childhood, we wanted to have a pony at our birthday party more than anything…even the boys, I’m sure. And your children most likely relish the idea as well. Pony rides have been a huge hit at parties for many years and the only flaw in this otherwise perfect form of party entertainment is that your children wont want them to leave. Hop-Upon-A-Pony is a family owned & operated business based in Deepdale, Geraldton. They offer pony rides for children’s birthday parties for all age groups, which can be held in your very own backyard or at a park. They can even dress their ponies up to a theme of your child’s choice. You can book one pony for 2 hours for $180 or two ponies for 2 hours for $250.

Amberland Inflatables:

Having a bouncy castle in your own backyard will keep the kids happy and you’ll be the talk of the town (or should I say, in the classroom), being known as “the coolest parents ever”. Bouncy castles are a great form of entertainment where the fun doesn’t stop. Amberland Inflatables, based in Boyanup, travel around Western Australia during the school holidays and have a wide range of inflatables from giant water slides to small bouncy castles for the backyard. Prices vary in terms of what sized inflatable you're after and bookings are based on when Amberland are travelling to Geraldton, so it is recommended to book a couple of months in advance.

Aquarena:

The Aquarena has always been a favourite at children's parties with their many different facilities available to hire. The Aquarena has giant inflatable fun factories for hire, including the BIFF, SMIFF and WIFF. If inflatables aren’t your child’s cup of tea, their Tarzan Rope is also a popular choice in the pool. Don't let the cold weather ruin your child's special day. If it's a bit nippy, their Leisure Pool, which is heated to 29 degrees and contains the 47 metre Flume Slide is guaranteed not to disappoint. To find out more about their prices and availability, visit their website.

It’s All Sorted:

If you don’t have the time to organise your child’s next party, or just don’t know where to start, phone It’s All Sorted, who can do all the hard work for you. It’s All Sorted specialise in a variety of organisational services, including business administration, fundraisers, organisational assistance, promotion assistance, event set up, children’s parties and much more. See what they can do for your next party by giving them a call today.
