Council renews commitment to Foreshore activation
/Buying a coffee and snack whilst enjoying the CBD and Beresford Foreshores remains a key attraction with Council renewing its commitment to activating these popular destinations.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said enhancing people’s experience of the City’s premier foreshore spaces is what Council’s re-approval of the Foreshore Use and Development Policy is about.
“The benefits of having an activated Foreshore were plain to see during the school holidays with more people than ever before walking, riding their bikes and skating on the shared paths or just relaxing in the sun with family and friends while their kids had fun in the playgrounds,” he said.
“Enjoying a coffee or snack whilst taking in these fantastic ocean views or treating the kids to an ice cream while they are playing on the beach or in our Foreshore playgrounds is all part of the coastal lifestyle residents and visitors love about Geraldton.
“This experience is about to get even better with AJ’s Café at Midalias Beach opening mid-August and Hogs Express installing a sea container café on City Beach to the north of the Surf Life Saving Tower in the coming weeks.”
The Foreshore Use and Development Policy ensures these high priority public open spaces have the capacity to meet the demand for outdoor recreation and tourism activities by providing the amenities and facilities the people want to have on our foreshores.
