HARBOR & WHARF
The fisherman’s wharf is fishing well of late with black Bream to 35cm getting taken around Extreme marine and bargwans jetties with Barnacles fishing well after dark. Big cod are also on the prowl with big fish regularly busting of anglers, Mangrove Jacks can also be found in these areas, if you’re after Snook for bait there are plenty of them handing around the lights.
The harbour has also been a popular spot with a good mix of fish coming from the new lookout with Tailor Snook Herring from the surface and deeper down is bream Mulloway and Morwong with the occasional school of Skippy, with big cod closer to the rocks, hammer head sharks and black tips caught after dark
OFFSHORE
The coral patches North West of town in 35-40m are holding good numbers of Pinks around the 5kg mark with South Gate also holding good schools of Pinkies in close.
There has been plenty of surface action around the 5 mile boy with Tuna and Bonito taking stick baits and micro jigs, Coral Trout and Red Throat can we found around this location, while African Reef is producing Dhu fish and Coral Trout with plenty of Sambo’s for the jiggers
ISLANDS
Jarred Groom the skipper of Top Deck and the trusty crew Daniel Mandosio and Kody Burnett had a great couple of days at the Island’s. The first day they managed to raise 4 Marlin hooked 4 and landed 2; one of the best days seen there for a while and day 2 brought more to the table with the tally of 6-3-1 They managed to tag a 200kg + Marlin and 300kg + threw the hooks, good work Lads.
BEACHES
South of town has been quiet with the dirty water affecting the fishing but with the March Mulloway run it should make for some good fishing from Greenough and the river.
Separation Point is still fishing the best for tailor, while Drummond and Buller have Tailor to 50cm and mulloway to 80cm.
WEATHER OUTLOOK
On Saturday we put on the Variety WA - Midwest Geraldton Onshore Game Fishing Competition at my store Tackleworld Geraldton. Had a great night and raised $4000 for the Variety kids as well. 32 people went game fishing and all caught a Sailfish - some quick - some very slow...
