97th anniversary of the Armistice

This year 11th November marks the 97th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. There is a tradition of wearing red poppies in memory of the fallen.

City of Geraldton R&SL members will be distributing poppies in exchange for donations this coming Friday, 6th November on Marine Terrace next to the clock, Rigter’s IGA,  Geraldton Post Office, Sunset IGA, Bunnings, Northgate, Stirlings, and will place poppies and donation tins at local schools and various small businesses around town from 8.00 am until 5.00 pm.

Please wear a poppy in remembrance of those who gave their lives for our freedom.

The money raised goes to an amelioration fund (Welfare Fund) which provides financial help to military veterans who are in financial difficulty.
