The Midwest's premier race track and the home of the Geraldton Gold Cup and Batavia Sprint.
The Geraldton Turf Club is one of the oldest established race clubs in Western Australia commencing racing in 1861 and it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2012.
The Geraldton Racecourse is found 435kms north of Perth on the Western Australian coastline overlooking the ocean.
The circuit usually holds 19 meetings annually from October to April.
Our feature races are the Geraldton Gold Cup and Batavia Sprint which runs outside the carnival period at the end of March.
Geraldton racing has a connection with many outstanding racehorses over many years including Perth Cup winner Ghurkha, Karrakatta Plate winner Rare Sovereign, WA Derby winner Beaujolais Boy, Belle Bizarre winner of the Railway Stakes and Luckygray dual winner of the Railway Stakes in 2011 and 2013, and Tapdog winner of three Geraldton Gold Cups.
Geraldton Racecourse or Utakarra Racecourse as it’s also known is one of the more prominent tracks used in Western Australia. While it may not be a major metropolitan venue like Ascot, Geraldton Racecourse is vital for the West Australian racing industry.
Like many racetracks of similar size the community feel of Geraldton Racecourse is part of what keeps it going strong. Geraldton itself is a spectacular seaside community approximately 4.5 hours to the north of Perth.
The new Geraldton Racecourse was officially opened in 2001 where there has been a $2 million transformation to the facilities of the Utakarra course boasts a facility that provides Canteen/Takeaway, Cafe, Catering, EFTPOS, Members Facilities, Tentland, Disabled Parking & Disabled Toilets.
