Rangeway Primary School is situated in the suburb of Rangeway on the eastern side of the city of Geraldton. It is a very multicultural community with significant populations of Aboriginal students (65%), Muslim students (6%) and a mix of other nationalities. In 2011 there were 506 students enrolled at the beginning of the year.
Recently, Geraldton MLA Ian Blayney congratulated Rangeway Primary School principal Jacqui Quartermaine who was named WA’s Outstanding Leader in Aboriginal Education.
Mrs Quartermaine was one of four Aboriginal educators, among the State’s best public school teachers and principals, whose contribution and commitment to creating positive futures for young Aboriginal people were recognised at the 2013 WA Aboriginal Education Awards.
The ancillary staff at Rangeway Primary School play a significant role in the implementation of a great many initiatives that are part of the school operations. The school places significant emphasis on pastoral care, early intervention, attendance and literacy and numeracy and it is in this area that many of our non-teaching staff have an important role.
Funding is utilised for Speech and Occupational Therapy programs, Resiliency and Social Skills Development coordinator, School Based Attendance Officers, SBCLO for Malay students and time for both the SBCLO and AIEO to work in the front office as a means of encouraging parent involvement and engagement with the school.
